First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford
Mission Activities

The first Walk-In Supper of 2010 was a great experience. The Committee used funds from our Garage Sale in September to purchase the ingredients and on February 5th, we prepared & served a turkey dinner with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce and vegetables, which was a big hit at the Shelter in Hackensack. We had plenty of desserts as well. The Committee thanks Danielle Rood and members of the Youth Group for baking most of the desserts and for additional goodies, Gail Galik, Crystal Jacobson, Karen Sullivan & Min Yap. We are also very grateful for the help we received that day. We thank the volunteers who helped us cook, transport, serve the meals & clean up -- Walter Cockcroft, Sue Culin, Jim Ely, Shari Gentile, Mary Hadrava and Crystal Jacobson. We could not serve these dinners without your help. The next Walk-In Supper is scheduled for Monday, May 3rd. You'll be hearing more about that in the near future.

We will be repeating the Easter Collection for the children served by the Rutherford Food Pantry. For four Sundays, there will be Easter boxes at the church entrances. We ask that you donate "Easter Basket" items that will be brought to the Food Pantry for distribution. Last year's collection provided the Pantry with many wonderful treats that made Easter Baskets possible for children who would not otherwise have them. Please pick up a couple of items in your travels and donate on Sunday mornings between February 28th and March 21st. We will also accept monetary donations, which we will use to purchase these items.

The CROP Walk is just around the corner. We will again host the event from our Parish House and the Committee hopes we can again make our presence known in a big way. We have last year's victories to defend and I know for a fact that the Congregational Church is already planning to do their best to beat us!!! Team Vera will again hit the streets of Rutherford, walking to end hunger here and abroad. I was not aware until recently that 25% of the money raised stays right here in Rutherford. Please keep Sunday, May 2nd, free and plan to take part in this important event!

As you turn your attention to "Spring Cleaning," please keep in mind that in September, the Committee will again be participating in the town-wide Garage Sale. If you think you might like to rent space for yourself, hang on to those saleable items. If you won't consider your own sale, please put aside those items for the Committee's table. See any committee member for information on this.

Thank you to our generous and supportive congregation. God bless.
